“You’re right, ladies!”

Fleur and Kelsie turned and looked at Mackenna with huge eyes. “We are? About what?”

Mackenna laughed as she propped her chin on her palm, elbow on the table. “I should just enjoy myself! I should simply go up to him and tell him that I’m game for an affair and just have fun!”

Fleur and Kelsie perked up. “Absolutely! You can have fun with Vince and see where it leads.”

Mackenna shook her head. “No. It definitely won’t lead anywhere. Not with Vince. Or any other doctor. But it would certainly be nice, wouldn’t it?”

Kelsie nodded her head. “Definitely. Go tell him now.”

Fleur wholeheartedly agreed. “He’s here. Playing pool with Hunter and Joe.”

That news almost caused Mackenna to fall off her barstool. “Here?” she squeaked out. Looking around, she tried to focus her eyes enough to find the man in question. Surely if he were here, she would have sensed him, wouldn’t she?

And then the reality of what they were proposing hit her. “No. I can’t tell him today. No way. I’ll tell him tomorrow.”

“Do it now,” Kelsie challenged, her eyes daring her new friend. Lifting her glass, she winked at Mackenna. “Liquid courage won’t last through tomorrow.”

They were right, she thought. Looking around, she was amazed at how full the bar had become. “There are too many people here now,” she said, once again dismissing the idea.

Fleur rolled her eyes. “Now you’re just looking for an excuse to bail on something you really want. Go do it now before you lose your courage. And don’t worry about the crowd. No one is paying any attention to you.”

Mackenna knew that Fleur was right, but she still struggled to find another reason not to follow through on propositioning a man who terrified her.

“Just do it before you overthink it,” Kelsie offered up.

They were right. Staring at the two women, she pondered if she could actually do what they were suggesting, what she’d already decided was a good idea. Or a stupid one, she hadn’t exactly figured out which. Mackenna knew that she shouldn’t do anything right now, not when her mind was fuzzy with the alcohol, her defenses down.

But Fleur and Kelsie were right. If she waited, she might not have the courage to make the suggestion to Vince. Besides, she was going to look like a fool anyway, wouldn’t it be nice to not remember it tomorrow morning?

“You’re right. I should do it now.” She picked up her glass and downed the rest of the margarita then braced herself. “Just walk up to him and tell him we should have sex?”

Both ladies shook their heads. “No. You want an affair. Not sex.”

Kelsie agreed. “Big difference.”

Mackenna stared at her friends, wondering if she had truly lost her mind. “An affair.” Why was the idea so tempting? Maybe because she’d been thinking along those lines every moment for the past week? Every time he’d smiled at her, told her she was doing a good job, brushed by her in the hallway.

Or kissed her outside of her apartment…

Oh yeah, he’d been in her mind.
